Wahid Biryani, Gomti Nagar

We had tried Wahid Biryani (the Lal Bagh outlet) a couple of times in the past. Since last year and a half because of traffic restrictions, problem of parking etc. we had stopped going. Don’t even know if the outlet still exists in Lalbagh or not.

While passing through Gomti Nagar recently came across Wahid Biryani’s outlet. We decided that to havedinner at this place. Wahid Biryani outlet is located right opposite Jaipuria School and Jaipuria Institute of Management, next to Pebbles’ Bistro. I think this is a new location (as per Zomato they have one existing outlet near Kathutha Lake in Gomti Nagar and one in Eldeco Complex Vibhuti Khand)

The place looks popular for take away – there were quite a few vehicles waiting for their food packets when we reached. The outlet gives an impression of being an open take away outlet. Please don’t go by the looks. We checked with the people who were selling and were informed that they do have space to sit inside. One needs to walk in through the main gate of the inn (yes the building has a small inn – (part of Oyo Rooms). The sitting area / family area is situated on the right from the entry main gate.

It’s a small area and has been given the look of a shack but with air conditioning. The ambiance is better than the LalBagh outlet. Please don’t expect an upmarket seating. The place was clean.

The menu has decent options – both for non vegetarians and vegetarians. Unlike many outlets which serve similar food (the so called Awadhi/Mughlai cuisine) they serve some fish items also.

We ordered for a butter chicken, chicken biryani and mughlai paranthas. Please remember while ordering for butter chicken that the dish you would get is not the authentic Punjabi butter chicken but a local version which is decent. The biryani was served with burani raita.

Food in terms of quantity was enough for three of us. Quality definitely left a lot to be desired. They can definitely improve on it. Pricing is at par with all similar joints across Lucknow.

Definitely not on my must visit outlet list, but can be tried once.

Rating:

Food & Beverages – 2.75 out of 5

Overall experience – 2.75
